Masculine Femininity

The inspiration for this shoot was menswear.
Women have the ultimate power of fashion. We can wear anything we please, or nothing at all, and still find a way to be sexy.
For these looks I dressed in menswear, or masculine womenswear to show that confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can wear.
As with any artistic project, it took on a life of its own, and luckily I'm happy with what this shoot became.
Now I'll let you be the judge.

Emerald City Inspiration

I spent the day in Seattle. Capitol Hill. Downtown. Inspiration comes from around you if you choose to look. Talk to people. Listen to what they say.

About the Look
Where feminine meets its dark side. A pretty top with pops of soft and bright pink and a pair of combat boots. When these worlds collide people will let you know how they feel about it. Just watch.

Boots: Steve Madden-Nordstrom Rack

Industrial Glam - A Shoot by the Tracks

The only thing more fun than styling a photoshoot is styling a friend too. Steph made the perfect Barbie doll to play dress up with. She let me do her hair, makeup, and select all her clothes and accessories. It helps that she's beautiful.

I was also lucky to work with a photographer who lets me have a lot of creative freedom when selecting a theme, location, and wardrobe.

Look 1: Casual Glam

About the look: Steph and I have very contrasting looks. I decided to play on this by using complimentary colors. I chose gold accessories for both of us, but gave her big earrings and me a big necklace. For Steph's makeup I contoured her cheekbones using powder, filled her eyebrows, and gave her a heavy liner and false lashes. The lip color for both of us was added to complete the contrasting look. Unfortunately we didn't get any full body shots of this look, but I assure you we had cute shoes ;)

Look 2: Sequin Seduction

My Favorite.

About the look: As you can tell, the photographer was a little more excited about the second ensemble. I chose sequins because it was very sunny that day and I was hoping to achieve a sort of angelic/demonic feel with a lot of reflected light. But we shot in the shade. I once again played on the contrast between Steph and I by dressing her in dark and me in light. I chose thigh highs because I think they are a great way to add mystery and make an outfit sexy while actually covering up. As someone who is always cold, I can get away with a lot more on the bottom half when I have thigh highs to keep me warmer too.

Wardrobe:

Date Night Outfit for Dinner and Wine

Every once in a while it is fun to let someone else pick your outfit. It can really help to be creative in a new way. Tonight my boyfriend made dinner reservations. While I was focused on my hair and makeup (trimmed my bangs myself!) I jokingly asked him to pick my outfit.

When I came out there were 4 different dress options laid across the bed and several pairs of shoes in a row on the floor. He said that he was most partial the the "green zebra dress" so I said I'd wear it. The thigh high socks he picked weren't working with it, and neither were his shoe selections so I chose the rest.

Dinner was Italian, and delicious. First time having Tiramisu.
Dress with pockets: Ross
Kitty!
Jacket: Nordstrom Rack

Details:

Left hand:
Kenneth Cole ring on index finger
Middle: chain rings from Forever 21

Right hand:
Skeleton hand ring from Hot Topic

Earrings: Prabal Gurung for Target
Necklace: Tiffany & Co. (gift)

Shoes: Ross
Dobby Tights: Nordstrom Rack

Tied the dress in the front instead of the back because I didn't want a lump in the back of the jacket.
Cheers! Xoxo

Burger Fries & A Shake - How To Wear Men's Clothing

Muscle Tees are trending for women right now. I personally enjoy the look because it's a wonderful combination of masculine and feminine characteristics. It can make an outfit look more tough and street, but also shows off the wearer's arms, which are not masculine at all in my case.
If the tee is cut low on the sides it's a great way to showcase a cute lace or printed bra too!
So I have already bought a couple of these muscle tees from stores I frequent like Forever 21, but it occurred to me that I don't have to limit myself to my own department with this style. I headed to the men's department.
Have you ever seen a men's shirt that you wished you could have in your size? I know I have.

Forever 21: Their menswear runs small
This is the shirt I picked. I thought the graphic was clever for a girl to wear, and I like the colors.
I turned it inside out, and cut just inside the seam where the sleeve is attached.

I got a chance to get out and enjoy the spring weather we are having in Seattle today. I threw on my muscle tee with a skater skirt and some sandals (Ross). For accessories I wore a spiked headband (F21), a coral beaded necklace (Burlington Coat Factory), and an elastic studded garter (made by me!). For this look I chose to coordinate instead of match.

So happy in the sun :)
