Train Spotting in the Alliance Shoes DV8 by Dolce Vita

As summer continues to drift away, I'm not ready to let go. I'm going to keep wearing my dresses. So I paired this one with a fall fave: the chambray shirt. The shoes are really gorgeous to look at, but let me tell you-these are not for walking. These booties are DV8 by Dolce Vita, and they're called the Alliance shoe. The color is bone. It could be that mine are just a little too small, but as an experienced high heel wearer/walker these are the most uncomfortable pair of shoes I've ever put my foot into! But we all know I'll wear them again sometime. Maybe for a nice dinner or something that doesn't involve much walking. 

 The look was put together to make a dress that could be more formal into a more casual look.Try wearing a collared shirt over a bodycon dress for your own similar look. You can make it more casual by adding combat boots or a sneaker instead of heels.

Look of the Day: Sheath Dress with a Collared Shirt

Inspiration:

This was an image on the banner of paperlime.com which I thought was such a cute way to transform a more formal/cocktail dress into a dress to wear to work, or in cooler weather.

Xpression:

For my look I decided to keep it simple with black and white and added pops of color. The dress I chose wasn't a conventional sheath dress, but a cute variation with a ruffled skirt. I chose neon yellow ballet flats, which are comfy for the office, and added purple earrings for more color (but you can't see them, because of my mega-black hair).

The Summer Flannel- How To Wear Your Winter Fave

As a  Seattle dweller it seems necessary to take note of the plaid shirt. Summer doesn't seem to be the season to wear a long sleeved cotton button-up, but this piece is standing it's ground. How? As an accessory.
Guys and girls alike are donning their favorite plaid shirts as an accent piece instead of a staple. The 90's era is all the rage right now, so it only makes sense that we would see plaid displayed in an oh-so-grungey way. What do you think of the look?

How to Make Naturally Straight Hair Unnaturally Curly

I've said it before, I'll say it again. My hair is naturally straight. It's also thin. And it doesn't like to hold a curl very well.
But just to be difficult, I wanted to get as close as I could to an afro for a look at a recent shoot.
I modified the recipe for no-heat curls known as "cocoon curls" and this is what happened.

What You'll Need:

• Dirty, unwashed hair
• A spraybottle full of water
• Some spraygel (optional)
• A bandanna or headwrap

What to Do:

• Take a small section of hair and spray it lightly with water. It should be damp, not wet. You can also spray a small amount of spray gel. Twist it until it is tight.

• Place two fingers at the top of the twist and bring the hair up and behind, wrapping it around itself.

• Wrap the hair around itself, with your fingers in place as many times as you can, while keeping it twisted.  

• When you can't wrap the twisted hair around anymore, grab the tip with the two fingers inside the loop of hair, but don't pull it all the way through.

• Slide the top of the knot down so that the loop tightens and holds the hair in place. The little tail should hang out so you can easily untie it the next day.

After I did this to all the hair on my head, using small, 2-3" sections, I wrapped it up in a bandanna and went to sleep. Luckily when I took out all the knots, it was exactly how I wanted it. HUGE.

I think next time I'll combine the faux hawk and these crazy curls for a whole new look!

Girl At The Rock Show- Eagles and Aliens at El Corazon

It was a Friday. My boyfriend and I went to Seattle to see Eagles and Aliens play. El Corazon was the venue. Vintage was the look. 

Eagles and Aliens were excellent, even though it was their first show playing as a three piece. I was excited to take home their CD which hasn't left my car stereo yet, even though it only has 3 tracks. Seattle's reputation for music acts like Nirvana and Pearl Jam give every local band an ego boost, so it was nice to see a group that was not only good, but actually in it for the music. Raw passion was exuded throughout their set and spread like a contagious virus. Very inspiring.

I love collage. Reminds me of getting dressed. Combination of independent pieces to create something else.  My favorite art form.

About the looks:

Warm sunny days in Seattle are treasured. This weekend was so nice it literally made national news. Finally I had a chance to wear a sundress and not freeze in a dress at night. I matched during the day by pairing coral shoes with my coral dress, and gold rings with a gold peter pan collar necklace. At night I went a different route. I paired a fuchsia dress with neon yellow. My shoes were leopard and neon with a red heel and I accented them with a neon clutch. Since the dress was loose fitted I chose an oversize blazer as my jacket. The loose dress and jacket worked well with the strappy shoes and lots of leg.
